Summer in Castelnovo and surrounding areas

A summer dedicated to sport, tradition, culture and art and the discovery of the environment begins in Castelnovo.

Off we go Tuesday 25th, Thursday 27th and Friday 28th June with the beach volleyball tournament that will liven up the Felina municipal park.

More high-level sport from Friday 28 June until Sunday 30 Junewith the national youth tennis tournament at the Circolo Tennis Appennino Reggiano in via MLKing: a high-level competition to see tomorrow’s champions at work.

Always from Friday 28 June, and until Monday 1 July, following Sunday’s preview, new appointments follow with The Walking Man, the “NonFestival” which, starting from the text of the same name by Christian Bobin, explores the relationship between man, the environment and the dimension of the sacred with a rich calendar of artistic events in the Apennines. The 2024 edition starts from a reflection by Arne Naess, philosopher, mountaineer and also musician, who paved the way for what is today defined as Deep Ecology or Ecosophy, a vision that understands man as fully integrated into nature, into context of environmental systems, thus detaching itself from the atavistic concept of the human being as “dominus” and arbiter of the planet.

Friday 28 June at the time of Compline (9pm) a meeting entitled “Ecology and Poetry from Arne Naess to Mary Oliver”: Franco Nasi will dialogue with Paola Loreto at the Laudato Sì Center, at the Bismantova Hermitage. Loreto teaches Anglo-American Literature at the University of Milan. You have published several books that have won important awards. She was poet en residence at the Center de Poésie et Traduction of the Fondation Royaumont (Paris).

Saturday 29 June, in time Matins (9.15 am) The Laudato Sì Center recalls the thoughts of Don Moroni, master of spirituality and ecology: an immersion in nature, on the way to the friars’ garden and arrival at Laudato Sì, followed by a conference on Don Antonio Moroni, Professor Emeritus of Ecology, long-time professor at the University of Parma, pioneer and promoter of ecological and environmental sciences in Italy. The meeting will be in Piazzale Dante, at Pietra di Bismantova. Always Saturday at the time of Vespers, (6pm): Gianni D’Elia will read passages from his latest “The sister of the dream” and will talk with Guido Monti in the church of Rosano di Vetto. D’Elia is a poet, writer and literary critic. He founded and directed the magazine “Lengua” (1982-1994) and collaborated as a critic for numerous periodicals: “il manifesto”, “Poesia”, “Nuovi Argomenti” and “L’Unità”. Born in Pesaro in 1953, he has eight titles in the Einaudi series “Collezione di poetica”.

Sunday 30 at the hour of Vespers (5.30 pm) again for The Man Who Walks it will be the turn of “Andante” a traveling performance on singing and walking through natural spaces, a creation by Faber Teater with departure from Sassolungo (in case of bad weather at the Bismantova Theatre). Faber Teater was born in 1997 thanks to the intuition and vision of Aldo Pasquero (for years also artistic director of the group with the precious collaboration of Giuseppe Morrone). It focuses on the work of an actor, group theatre, collective creation, the actor-spectator relationship, in the continuous and passionate search for a theater made of thought, action, ideas, shows, exchanges, quality, commitment.

Monday 1st July at the time of Compline (9pm) presentation of the book “Dante’s Diaries – The legend came true” by and with Riccardo Starnotti, in Piazza delle Armi, the heart of the historic center of Castelnovo (in case of bad weather, Teatro Bismantova). Starnotti is an expert scholar of Dante Alighieri and the Divine Comedy, but he is also a tourist, environmental and “Dante” guide, as he likes to define himself, in Florence and Tuscany. He is the promoter of the Tour Danteschi project, where he proposes themed itineraries in the places visited by the great poet during his exile or mentioned in the Divine Comedy. Saturday 29 June at Lake Virola there will also be a fishing competition with the “grab and drop” mode, from 2.30 pm to 8 pm. Also on Saturday 29 June on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the opening, there will be a big party at the Furnason Bike Park, with Pump Track courses, Idl Show Show, Mini Jam, Free Riding, Idl Show show, at Felina in via Fornacione from 4pm, with the possibility of having a snack and dinner together.

Sunday 30 June The Ruote ne’ Monti rally is back, an exhibition of vintage and sports cars, in Piazza Peretti from 10am to 1pm.

From Monday 1st to Friday 5th July on the parish pitch near the Church of the Pieve there will be the 3 vs 3 basketball tournament in memory of Gianni Caprari, now in its third edition. The final on July 5th will be in Piazza Gramsci.
