Pokerissimo is reality! Elisa Longo Borghini wins her fifth national road title at the Italian Cycling Championships, thus redeeming himself from the penalty received in the time trial race. And the way in which he has won the fourth Italian jersey in the last five years is practically a sort of revenge: starting alone at -26 from the finish line, she performed a real time trial going on to win alone ahead of Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ) and Eleonora Gasparrini (UAE Team ADQ), who with this placing became the Italian U23 champion.
At the start the situation appears quite crystallized, with Elisa De Valler (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) who takes the responsibility of being the first to start, gaining a maximum of 1’40” and being caught again at the eightieth kilometre, after more than an hour of solitary escape.
Then there is a succession of escape attempts on an apparently simple route, but full of many ups and downs, practically without plains: the slightly more substantial one is that of Marta Pavesi (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) and Beatrice Caudera (UAE), which only gain a few seconds. Meanwhile, the group thins out, until the moment when, on the passage towards the finish line, Elisa Longo Borghini’s solo arrives.
The Lidl-Trek champion, perhaps encouraged by the progress of the time trial, she starts -25 from the finish line and immediately puts a fifteen second margin between herself and her pursuers. However, there is no organization behind it, there is no such collaboration as to be able to get back on her wheels and the advantage expands to 35″: Elisa manages to manage herself and can arrive with her arms raised.
