The robbers allegedly took watches, jewels and cash from Roberto Baggio’s villa. But in the interminable 40 minutes in which the former footballer was held kidnapped together with his wife Andreina, his 80-year-old mother-in-law and his youngest children Mattia and Leonardo, the thieves did not steal the numerous trophies and memorabilia that the Divine Codino keeps in home. A detail that the investigators are working on, with the suspicion that the gang of robbers had no idea who the owner of that house in the countryside in Altavilla Vicentina was.
Where is Roberto Baggio’s Ballon d’Or
After that robbery last Thursday which took place during Italy-Spain, several Baggio fans wondered what had happened to the Ballon d’Or trophy, for example. It is certainly one of the most precious objects of the former footballer’s career, and in fact he was careful not to keep it at home. Won in 1993 practically unanimously, Roberto Baggio’s Ballon d’Or is kept in a safe deposit box in a trusted bank. Therefore the bandits would never have been able to find him.
The random theft hypothesis
However, there are several memorabilia that the Divine Codino has in his villa. From the shirts he wore, to those worn by the great champions he played against. And then medals, cups and various trophies. All that treasure of sports memorabilia remained in Baggio’s house, leaving two hypotheses pending by the investigators. The first is that the criminals had no idea who the man was who they also hit with the butt of a gun, after Baggio had tried to react during the robbery. According to the reconstruction cited by Corriere della Sera, while the family was sequestered in a room of the house, the bandits were asked if they were there to steal the memorabilia. However, no response came from the gang.

The second hypothesis is that in less than an hour the robbers were unable to find the memorabilia. In those 40 minutes they turned the house upside down, rummaging everywhere. But aside from the valuable items they managed to find, the thieves may not have had all the details of the house or perhaps they lacked time to search all the rooms. The memorabilia would all have been stored in a dedicated room in the villa. However, that room was not even touched by the thieves, who are still being identified.
