“It’s right to express ourselves freely, but let’s remain neutral”

The FFF, the French Football Federation, has issued a statement regarding the statements made today by Marcus Thuram, who had asked to go and vote to stop the rise of the right-wing coalition in the next elections, called by President Emmanuel Macron after the result of the European elections : “Since the beginning of the week, almost all the players of the French national team have been questioned, in a press conference, on the consequences of the results of the polls in the European elections on Sunday 9 June. Each of them has been able to express themselves freely, according to their beliefs and your own sensitivity.

Very attached to freedom of expression and citizenship, the French Football Federation supports the necessary call to vote, a democratic requirement. It also wants its neutrality as an institution to be understood and respected by all, as well as that of the national selection for which it is responsible. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid any form of pressure and political use of the French team.

Ahead of the Blues’ match against Austria on Monday, the FFF wishes the coach, staff and focused and determined players every success.”
