CREMA – Seven years after the only Italian double in 17 editions, scored by Luca Nardi and Lisa Pigato, Italy will return to win both draws of the Città di Crema tournament. The certainty arrived already at the end of the quarter-finals, when the son of art Mattia Pescosolido eliminated the last foreigner competing in the international under 16 event of the Tennis Europe calendar, the Spaniard Adrian Oltean Achacollo, number 3 in the seeding. After losing the first set, the latter attempted to hold on to the tournament by dominating the second half, but in the third Pescosolido regained control of the match and with the final 6-2 1-6 6-2 he guaranteed the Italian victory in the men’s , given that Jorge Vanine, first seed and number 72 in the under 16 ranking, also left the scene at the start of the day. The surprising Tommaso Falardi from Bergamo beat him, passing with a peremptory 6-3 6-2. His next opponent will be the Milanese Michele Maniglia (6-4 6-3 in the derby against Van Son Didoni), while the other semi-final will pit Pescosolido, number 7 in the draw, against the Pavia native Giovanni Enrico Boi, who had eliminated on Wednesday the second favorite Maksymilian Kwiatkowski and the following day he confirmed himself in the Italian match against Casale, prevailing with a score of 6-1 6-4.

Even more exciting for Italy was the day of the women’s quarterfinals, because there were three foreigners to eliminate but ours knocked them out one after the other. At the Centrale, Sara La Noce from Abruzzo had some luck, taking advantage of the withdrawal of Croatian Nika Cakarun, number one on the scoreboard, struggling with a knee injury which forced her to throw in the towel in the early stages of the second set, when the Italian led 6-2 1-2. Beatrice Cocomazzi from Lazio instead eliminated the Portuguese Frederica Nunes (6-4 6-3), while the Romanian Ana Maria Dumitru fell under the blows of Ginevra De Angelis from the Marche, scoring 6-2 6-1. The same score also resolved the derby between Beatrice Vittoria Gatti and Caterina Burini, with the former victorious and Sara La Noce’s next opponent. Cocomazzi-De Angelis the other semi-final.
Today in Crema we start at 11.30: on Centrale the two men’s seeds, on Court 3 the two women. The doubles finals will start at 4pm: first the women’s match between Buccinotti/Volante and Baroglio/Lampiano Garbarini, then the men’s match. Free entry.
