Nova Gorica is ready for the arrival of third stage of the Tour of Sloveniawhich tomorrow (Friday 14 June) will connect Ljubljana with the liveliest city in the country. The caravan is expected to arrive in the city between 2.40pm and 3.15pm. The atmosphere in the center will be lively already after 12, when the buses and support vehicles of the 25 best cycling teams in the world will arrive on Kidričeva ulica. The peculiarity of this year’s Tour is its borderless dimension, as it will cross all four national borders, including the one between Italy and Slovenia, arriving as far as Gorizia.
On the Italian side, the neighborhoods of Piuma and Montesanto will be affected by the passage, with cyclists coming from San Floriano del Collio. Some measures on traffic are necessary, communicated to residents of the affected areas both through door-to-door leafleting carried out by the local police and with the Alert System. To allow the stage to take place, from 1pm until the end of the event it will be long transit ban introduced via del Monte Santo, via Mighetti, via degli Orzoni, via Don Bosco, via Bella Veduta, locality Piuma, locality Ossario, locality Dosso del Bosniaco, locality Oslavia, locality Madonnina di Oslavia, locality Lenzuolo Bianco, locality Tre Buchi.
From 9am until the end of the event, the parking ban will be valid with forced removal (where not already in force) on the entire roadway in: via del Monte Santo, via Mighetti, via degli Orzoni, via Don Bosco, via Bella Veduta, locality Piuma, Ossario locality, Dosso del Bosniaco locality, Oslavia locality, Madonnina di Oslavia locality, Lenzuolo Bianco locality, Tre Buchi locality.
Numerous activities along the route to best accommodate cyclists, especially between Nova Gorica and Brda. Among the events, in the courtyard of the Kostanjevica monastery the girls of the MN Dance School will dance with green veils, on the Qlandia overpass the Terror Boys of ND Gorica will perform with green torches, the Majorettes GO Twirling association will dance at the Qlandia roundabout and on the roof of the National Theater Sng. The Sport Club Twist will perform at the roundabout of the Rondo park, the Goriško gimnastično društvo will perform in front of the Hrast restaurant, the kindergarten and the Svet Montessori school will be at the crossroads near the same venue.
Also involved are residents of the communities of Kromberk and Ozeljan along the road to Mount San Gabriele where the Wind Orchestra will play. Gargaro primary school will cheer with children at the monument to General Borojević in Prevala, then there will be a horse show in Ravnica, TD-Kuk Grgarske Ravne will present themselves with historical masks at the roundabout under the Holy Mountain. There will be no shortage of scenic thrill: The Mrak family of climbers and their four children will climb the stone railway bridge in Salcano, tightrope walkers from the SlackAlien association will walk on the tightrope near the road bridge in the direction of Brda.
The Plesno društvo Pro will dance on the walkway over the Soča River at the kayak club, where paddlers will be engaged in the water between the three bridges. Returning to the city, the Kristal and Kukg skating clubs will perform on Kidričeva ulica. A QR code will also be placed on the lawn in front of the town hall with the link to the 2025 European Capital of Culture platform.
Also in Brda they are preparing numerous activities along the route. More than 40 children are organizing a special show on the Gonjače tower. Residents of the Podsabotin Retirement Home will also participate, while pupils from the Alojz Gradnik primary school in Dobrovo and the affiliated school in Kojsko are preparing a reception point for the caravan. The Brda Cycling Club will be located along the Vipolže-Cerovski klanec route. The Hum youth association will place a large wheel, while a resident will build wooden bicycles which will be displayed along the roundabouts.
The Tour of Slovenia published on its social media the competition of the Municipalities of Nova Gorica and Brda entitled “Vseslovenska kološtorja”, to search for the most interesting anecdote that has ever happened with a bicycle. In addition to an electric scooter worth 500 euros, the local governments will also offer bicycle rentals and tourism experiences in the two regions. Everything takes place simultaneously on the Giro’s Facebook and Instagram profiles until Sunday 16 June. The winners will be chosen by a competition commission, the announcement will be on the official channels. The requirement to participate is to be over 18 years old.
