The prohibitive weather forecast which affect the whole weekend Gavia PassCoppi peak of Granfondo Gavia & Mortirolo with its 2618 meters, force the organizers of the event scheduled for Sunday morning to change the two paths which should have passed on the famous climb.

«Before editing routes – highlights Vittorio Mevio, patron of GS Alpi who organizes the event – we waited for the latest indications from Arpa Lombardia. The forecast for Sunday morning on Passo Gavia was: Precipitation/12h around 10mm, decreasing during the morning with probable snow or wet snow starting from 2300-2400 meters. Snow quota rising slightly from late morning. Minimum temperatures on the ground between 0-2°C, maximum temperatures between 5-7°C, freezing point around 2800-2900 metres, rising slightly from late morning».

Having taken note of what was reported by ARPA, therace organization moved accordingly: «Given that the weather conditions expected on the Gavia Pass on Sunday do not allow us to pass the caravan safely, we decided to opt for the alternative route. The safety of cyclists in races has always been our first objective. To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the event, we would have liked to offer new emotions to the participants, but as previously underlined, safety comes first. And I’m sure that even with modified routes it will always be fantastic to cycle along this extraordinary territory».
