In Crema five Italians still on the scoreboard

CREMA – Five people remained to separate Italy from the dream of winning the 18th edition of the Città di Crema tournament in both the men’s and women’s categories, as happened only in 2017. With the scoreboards of the under 16 event of the Tennis Europe circuit aligned with the quarter-finals, the foreigners still in the running are two in the men’s and three in the women’s categories: there are still important names such as the Portuguese Jorge Vanine and the Croatian Nika Cakarun, first seeds capable so far of leaving crumbs to their opponents; but on Wednesday in Crema two of the most accredited potential killjoys fell, namely the number twos on the scoreboards Maksymilian Kwiatkowski and Viktoria Soier. The Pole’s ambitions were scaled down by Giovanni Enrico Boi from Pavia, who has been one of the special observers of Lombard tennis for years and in the morning he reiterated why against Centrale, prevailing with an unprecedented 6-2 6-0. The Austrian Soier, however, went out in the afternoon, regulated with a double 6-3 by Lazio’s Beatrice Cocomazzi, one of the five Italians in the quarterfinals. Her tournament is curious: she started it on Tuesday by losing her first set on the clay of Tc Crema 6-0, then she dominated the next four and on Thursday she will play for access to the semi-finals against the Portuguese Frederica Nunes (6-3 6 -3 to Sofia Papalini). Sara La Noce, Ginevra De Angelis, Caterina Burini and Beatrice Vittoria Gatti will also be in the quarterfinals for Italy, as predicted, with the last two facing each other in a derby. Among the boys, however, there will be two all-blue duels with a view to the semi-final: Giovanni Enrico Boi will face Edoardo Casale (who took advantage of the Argentine Faustino Boffelli’s withdrawal due to injury), while Michele Maniglia will challenge Van Son Didoni, one of the three Italian qualifiers still in the running (in four matches the Brianza player lost a paltry eleven games). The other is Tommaso Falardi from Bergamo, who dominated the duel against Simone Cerani with a comfortable 6-3 6-1 and on Thursday he will try to put a spoke in the wheels of number 1 seeding Vanine. The list of the quarter-finals is completed by the match between the son of art Mattia Pescosolido (6-1 6-0 to Matteo Sabbatini) and the Spaniard Adrian Oltean Achacollo, who scored with a double 7-5 against Mattia Logrippo. Thursday in Crema we start at 9.30, on two fields. First all the quarter-finals of the singles are scheduled, then the semi-finals of the doubles which will end on Friday. Free entry.

C SERIES Still on the subject of competitive competitions, Tc Crema met the opponents of the national playoffs of the Serie C championship, for the duels – to be played with a home and away formula – which will offer promotion to the national Serie B2 for 2025 The boys led by Francesco Longhino will face the Apulians of the “I Campetti” Tennis Club of Nardò (Lecce), with the first leg in Puglia and the return match in Crema. The girls led by Daniela Russino instead defeated their rivals from the Le Roccette Tennis Club of Mascalucia (Catania), with the first match in Crema and the second in Sicily.
