The expansion works of the Monigo stadium in Treviso were announced a few months ago. The project, which involves the green and white club and the municipal administration, includes a new 1500-seat grandstand.

A work that was necessary to respond to the growing number of fans frequently present at the stadium. In the season just ended, sold out was a constant feature of the internal competitions.

The project, conceived and financed by Benetton Rugby, involves the construction of a new structure in the ticket office area and the main entrance.

Furthermore, the creation of a staircase is envisaged, to increase the capacity to approximately 6500 units, with box offices and commercial activities. But, according to what was reported by Gazzetino from the idea, announced during the December press conference to the signing of the extension of the agreement with the FIR, no concrete administrative action was taken.

Extension of Monigo: the words of Amerino Zatta and Mario Conte

«To this day – said the president of Benetton Rugby Amerino Zatta – we still don’t see that ending that can allow us to say that we are closing the issue».

After congratulating the company for the results obtained, the Mayor of Treviso Mario Conte declared:

«As regards the new grandstand, the conditions that the Municipality has set are well known to Benetton. We are a public body, the margins of action are those communicated to the management at the time. If you want to move forward with those parameters linked to the financing of the work, we are obviously there. I also remember that the Municipality of Treviso must meet, with its investments, the needs of all the companies that are part of our territory. We try to cope with everyone. Obviously we believe that Benetton is an important club, which brings both sporting and tourism related activities. We are available to make sacrifices together with the club, but I repeat: the conditions are always those that we have illustrated. The ball is in the company’s hands rather than the municipality.”

Finally, Mayor Conte gave his explanation regarding the conditions discussed in this issue to be resolved between the Municipality and the club.

«These are conditions linked to financing opportunities with Credito Sportivo, or project financing, it depends on Benetton’s willingness and availability. The tools at our disposal are very limited. The exact expense is known to the company. What we can do is stipulate a new concession, so that an adjustment can then be made
shock absorption.”
