As we were saying, there are millions of people who watch the races every weekend. Someone is more expert on the topic, someone less. The great thing about Formula 1 is that everyone likes it: speed always has its charm. However, you often hear terms that almost no one knows. Today we reveal what they mean, for example, graining and blistering.

Formula 1, what is graning

In Formula 1, a fundamental role is played by the tyres, given that they are the point of contact between the vehicle and the asphalt. Let’s start from graining: with this term, we refer to a type of tire wear which occurs when there is a large temperature difference between the asphalt and the tire compound.

This is a phenomenon that can occur when the asphalt is too cold compared to the tyre, but also vice versa. In this way, yes significantly reduces tire grip and therefore also of the vehicle, with the effect of reducing safety and slowing down lap times.

What is blistering

When we talk about blisteringinstead, we refer to the overheating of the internal part of the tire. This excess heat causes the rubber to separate from the tire carcass, thus forming blisters or “bubbles” on the surface that reduce the tires’ grip. This causes a loss of performance and a decrease in race pace.

Various factors cause this phenomenon, among which there is one driving too aggressively in the early stages of the race or an incorrect choice of tire compound. However, it is a reversible phenomenonas is graining.
