In recent days, decisive days are being played for the various European championships. In addition to the United Rugby Championship, with the Zebre match and Benetton’s conquest of the playoffs, the English Premiership and the French Top 14 have also seen or must see the performances of several Italian players playing abroad on the pitch.

In England only Marco Riccioni with his Saracens gained access to the Premiership semi-finals. His team fought hard but will not defend the title won last edition. On the evening of Friday 31 May the blue prop took the starting pitch with the number 3 shirt and played until the 63rd minute, but was unable to overcome the Northampton Saints, who prevailed 22-20.

The penultimate day of the Top 14 is underway in France. Yesterday Perpignan fielded Tommaso Allan and Pietro Ceccarelli as starters, while Martin Page-Relo wore the number 9 shirt for Lyon.

The Azzurri had mixed luck: Perpignan faced one of the best teams in the French championship, Bordeaux, but emerged victorious. In terms of points, the contribution of Tommaso Allan, deployed as a fullback, was really important: 17 points, which allowed the Catalan team to beat their opponents 37-30. It went less well for Page-Relo who with his Lyon lost 41-26 against Montpellier, a result which however does not put the team’s safety in doubt.

But the 25th day of Top 14 is not over. Today, Sunday 2 June, at 6.00 pm Paolo Garbisi will take to the field wearing the Toulon shirt with number 10, to face Clermont, while Ange Capuozzo will play at 9.05 pm with Toulouse to challenge La Rochelle in the match that closes the round.

As for the girls, excellent result yesterday for Francesca Sgorbini and Gaia Maris. The Italians with their Romagnat gained access to the final of the French Elite 1, beating the girls of Stade Toulousain in the semi-final. In England, however, Tounesi and Rigoni will take the field for Sale Sharks against Bristol Bears, as will Turani in Harlequins-Trailfinders.
