Red Bull, Marko enraged by Perez’s accident in Monte Carlo: “Two or three million damage”

Not just a disappointing result and a Ferrari close again, albeit still at a safe distance. For the Red Bull the Monte Carlo weekend was disastrous especially from an economic point of view. The terrible accident which involved Sergio Perez and the two Haas of Magnussen and Hulkenberg in fact he saw the Mexican’s car being completely destroyed by the impact with the barriers, obviously forcing him to retire after a few corners.

The FIA, despite Red Bull’s anger against the American team, did not penalize anyone: it was too complex to understand who between Perez and Mabgnussen actually excessively hindered the other enough to cause the terrible impact, even if analyzing the replays the responsibility seemed fall more on the Danish driver, who has always been accustomed to over the top defenses. It’s another incident involving Magnussen. You have to watch the replays carefully, thank God it ended well, but it was a very critical situation. I was surprised at how quickly they put the incident behind them,” Helmut Marko began, speaking to Sky Sports Germany.

But the most important aspect to take into consideration for the championship is another: the repercussions that this accident will have on the budget, limited by regulation. For a few years now, all the teams in the big circus have in fact had an overall spending limit of 125 million euros for the entire season and these accidents force them to concentrate their economic efforts on repairs, potentially losing the possibility of developing the car for races to come as they may not be able to bring new parts to a Grand Prix.

“These are decisions that are difficult to influence, but firstly it was dangerous and secondly the damage is two or three million, and this is a big handicap for us with the regulations on budget limits”, Marko explained. It could have been predicted that the cost would be very high, but if the statements of the Red Bull consultant were true we would be talking about one of the most expensive accidents in recent years.
