In France a law firm is tackling the giant Stellantis head-on for two issues: i problems related to the 1.2 PureTech engine and the C3 and DS3 Takata airbags, for which a new lawsuit has just been created. Speaking of PureTech, it seems that Stellantis is not inclined to compensate customers in money.
The lawyer Christophe Leguevaques started, some time ago, a collective legal action against Stellantis to allow users affected by Engine problems 1.2 PureTech to be compensated. To summarize brutally, it is enough to know that the first two generations of 1.2 PureTech were troubled by problems related to the transmission belt, which Stellantis modified with a safer and more durable chain with the third generation of the engine (in the meantime the first technical updates have also arrived for the 1.2 PureTech 3rd Gen).
While some customers “got fine”, with minimal repercussions on their car, others had to replace the entire thruster. Lawyer Leguevaques specifically collected the support of 4,800 users affected by problems of varying degrees related to 1.2 PureTech, but now the Stellantis lawyers have apparently communicated to the Lèguevaques law firm that they do not want to agree with the requested compensation.
The law firm had forwarded the documentation to Stellantis requesting an examination of the case and responding regarding possible monetary compensation to the individuals users within 3 months, deadline which will fall on June 30th. In past weeks, Stellantis had tried to “make a patch” by extending the warranty on vehicles equipped with 1.2 PureTech, but this was not enough for the users of the collective legal action who in fact pushed for monetary compensation. Since the issue is ending “in a Mexican standoff,” without an agreement between the parties, it is very likely that the matter will be discussed in court, in front of a judge, called to legally decide on the matter. We’ll see if some “twist” will arrive by June 30th, otherwise a legal battle could start that will last a few years…
