The season is coming to an end, but some verdicts have not yet been issued, such as that – always in the balance at the end of the season – of the fight for survival. There are those who have already celebrated their stay in Serie A, those who will have to conquer the top flight in the last 180 minutes, and those who, due to over the top behaviour, will have to watch their teammates from the stands without being able to take the field.
The sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea, together with Stefania Ginesio and AIA Representative Carlo Moretti, decided to disqualify four players, after reading the referees’ reports from all pitches of Serie A on the 36th matchday. Some heavy verdicts emerge, especially for some teams that are still fighting for important goals.
Three cases of disqualified players not sent off, due to the sum of warnings during the previous days. These are three players from Lazio, Atalanta and Milan, who will miss the penultimate matchday. We are talking about Alessio Romagnoli, Teun Koopmeiners and Matteo Gabbia, who will only miss one championship match. The heaviest verdict, however, came for Verona.
Serie A suspensions: championship finished after expulsion
The sports judge’s decision arrived on Tuesday 14 May. Mastrandrea has decided to ban the Verona striker for two matches Henry. In fact, the number 9 was lost at the end of the match by the Venetians by 2 goals to 1, an episode that led to his expulsion at the end of the match.
Heavy expulsion, given that the attacker, with Verona still fighting to save themselves, will have to skip the last two remaining games. The motivation was, as the sports judge wrote,
behavior “threatening attitude towards the match director to whom he addressed a disrespectful expression, reiterating this attitude in the tunnel leading to the changing rooms“.
Henry, another expulsion after the D’Aversa case
It’s not the first time Henry gets pinched by the referee after the final whistle. In addition to the disqualification he just received, the Verona striker will be remembered above all for that argument at the end of Lecce-Verona, which ended 0-1 for the Venetians, at the end of which the player even got into a fight with the coach.
In fact, D’Aversa, upon seeing him arguing with Pongracic, had approached threateningly, before headbutt him.
