When victories come following great comebacks – in the race itself, in a career or in life – they always hide something touching. Perhaps because they tell us that the determination and passion of an athlete can give rise to businesses that lead to triumph.
Nicola Genovese triumphed in Castiglione della Pescaia by winning in Granfondo Poggi thanks to a spectacular action. The main breakaway developed 60 kilometers from the conclusion promoted by Sarti, Bongiorno and Genovese himself: the three worked in mutual agreement, then on the last bump Bongiorno’s decisive attack, only Genovese resisted the thousand sprints while Sarti gave in . And then, in the final sprint, Genovese literally takes a tough Bongiorno off the wheel, winning with authority.
Once again the standard bearer of Marco Compagnini’s Team Rossoazzurri gives real emotions, which remain engraved in everyone’s hearts. Cycling is made up of many difficult moments, disappointments that would knock anyone out, because – unlike what happens in many other sports – sometimes nothing is enough to ruin months, years of sacrifices.
But cyclists like Nicola are special souls who have a rare strength, forged in the heart and soul by an unbridled passion: Nicola Genovese is reborn with determination from his ashes and does so by returning stronger than before. A rider both brilliant and humble who would have deserved important stages in the professionals, while the years spent with the D’Amico Utensilnord Team did not give him the right visibility.
