In addition to the driver market, which is always capable of attracting the primary interest of professionals, in Formula 1 there is an equally important market of engineers and designers. Perhaps more important, certainly less advertised. A truth that however does not apply to Adrian Neweythe greatest of Formula 1 designers, who designed the jewels that allowed Red Bull to dominate the ground effect era.
With the recent turbulence within Red Bull, however, Newey has been “disputed” between the Austrian clans and Chris Horner. It is clear that having the designer on your side (an objective which Helmut Marko appears to have achieved) provides strength in the power struggle within Milton Keynes. But it is precisely this battle that allows the other teams to step in to snatch a Newey who is certainly unhappy at being “put in the middle” by people with whom he has worked (and won) for almost 20 years. And, according to reports Autosportin the last few hours amind-boggling offer from Aston Martin. Offer that confirms the rumors of a contact that we had reported previously.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Lawrence Stroll has shown interest in Newey, but clearly the context has never been as favorable as this time. Especially if after these days of apparent calm tensions rise again, with Max Verstappen already questioning his future at Red Bull.
The Ferrari offer
On Newey there is also the Ferrari. As our Pino Allievi had reported, in fact, the redhead has already been in contact with the Brit for some time and the advanced state of the negotiations has been confirmed by multiple sources. However, Aston Martin’s offer would be even more interesting for Newey, at least from a logistical point of view, since the Silverstone headquarters is located a stone’s throw from Milton Keynes. Furthermore, in 2026 Aston Martin will begin using Honda power units, a fundamental partner of Red Bull’s success in recent years.
