Marquez ‘heir’ to Agostini?
The 2024 MotoGP championship has just begun, but it’s already time pilots market. Francesco Bagnaia and Ducati have already formalized the renewal until 2026 and the same goes for Brad Binder and KTM. The Austrian company has put the loyal South African who won the Moto3 title with KTM in the safe, but has Pedro Acosta at home and through the sponsor Red Bull could also bring Marc Marquez, who debuted with the brand, back into the fold from Mattighofen in the 125 class.
Podcast guest ‘Duralavita’ which also sees Jorge Lorenzo among the participants, the Spanish journalist Ricard Jové underlined that the General Director of Ducati Corse Luigi Dall’Igna has a weakness for Marc Marquez for which the doors of the official Ducati team could open starting from 2025.
At the same time, however, the KTM-Pierer Mobility AG group also cradles fascinating scenarios that would involve Marc Marquez: making it the leading face of MV Agusta, a brand – of which KTM recently acquired the majority of shares – which would return to the premier class of speed motorcycling. Marc Marquez would essentially become Giacomo Agostini’s heir. The operation would not be a simple rebranding of two RC-16s as currently happens for the GasGas, but the bike would be ‘new’, a truly different manufacturer, a plan that the CEO of the KTM AG group Stefan Pierer has been considering for some time not suspicious.
