Dumfries banner with Theo on a leash: the FIGC will open an investigation

A prison banner that ended up in the wrong hands and tarnished the party, exactly what Inter didn’t want. Denzel Dumfries slipped on the banana peel, raising a shameful photomontage to the sky of Milan, who knows whether consciously or without fully realizing it. In the ecstasy of the championship parade, some fans passed it to Marko Arnautovic and from there it reached the Dutch winger: in the image you can see Denzel himself holding a dog with Theo Hernandez’s face on a leash. The reference is to the tense stories between the two flankers who argue every time they cross paths on the wing: in the last derby, the one of the stars won by Inter at the home of the Devil, they put their hands back on each other as per tradition and get a double red. For this reason, yesterday against Torino Denzel was not on the field due to disqualification, but outside of him he still caused a mess. By inciting the crowd while raising the banner, he certainly did not make his leaders happy, who would have wanted a celebration without any provocation. Among other things, the players had been warned in recent days by Steven Zhang himself (“let’s celebrate according to the club’s values”) and the concept had been repeated shortly before getting on the bus. In the general delirium, however, the banner escaped control and here it is in the hands of Denzel, wearing a celebratory shirt and sunglasses. And the fact that, during the Scudetto parade two seasons ago, the AC Milan player had displayed the banner “Put the Italian Cup in your cunt…” aimed at his city rivals certainly cannot be an excuse. Dumfries, among other things, is discussing the renewal of his contract with Inter which expires in 2025. In a few weeks, in or out: without an agreement, goodbye. This slip, although unpleasant, will not affect the negotiations which are anything but easy. Among other things, he is discussing another video (not very clear) that has been doing the rounds on social media: there are Lautaro and Bastoni who seem to be following an offensive anti-Milan chorus.

Already yesterday evening the Federal Prosecutor’s Office began to acquire videos of what happened and it is inevitable that they will open a case, as happened in similar circumstances in the recent past: in 2022 Theo himself, together with his companions Krunic, Maignan and Tonali, were punished with fines between 4 and 5 thousand euros (12 thousand at Milan) precisely for that controversial banner displayed to the Inter cousins during the celebration of the Scudetto winner. A few days later, Roma player Zaniolo launched offensive chants towards Lazio during the Conference victory celebration and paid a fine of 4 thousand euros (and another 4 thousand for Roma). Five thousand euros, however, is the amount paid by Gianluca Mancini for waving the flag with the Lazio mouse after the last derby. In Dumfries the art should be challenged. 4 of the Code of Sports Justice which obliges members to “loyalty, correctness and probity”. The outcome is already written, only the fine remains to be seen. And how the club will take it.
