That the state road 45bis – where tonight in Gavardo he lost his life 27-year-old Marica Avanzi – being dangerous is certainly nothing new. In 2022, according to Istat data, it was the road that recorded the most victims in all of Lombardy. That year there were 9: a total of which included the 5 boys who died instantly in terrible crash in Rezzato on the evening of January 22. They were Dennis Guerra, born in 2002, from Sabbio Chiese; Imad El Harram, also twenty years old, from Preseglie; Imad Natiq, also born in 2002, from Pertica Bassa; Salah Natiq, 22 years old from Vestone; and a 17 year old girl, Irene Sala, from Villanuova sul Clisi. After six days, less than 600 meters away, another tragedy: in Mazzano they lost their lives two workers who were traveling in their van.
“There are no killer roads or curves”

A few days after those accidents, the then commander of the Brescia Highway Rita Palladino – guest on the Teletutto programme «Messi a fuoco» – had reiterated that «it is not a black-label portion of the road, with a marked accident rate» and had also explained that for her «there are no killer roads or curves. The road is one of the components of a serious accident but not the only one. Just like all the others, we can work to improve it». In this sense, the commander’s reference was to the «constant relationship with the road owners to whom we promptly report the critical issues we detect».
More victims in 2022 and 2023
Unfortunately, however, other victims were added to the dramatic 45bis toll in the following months. In October, the 22-year-old died after an invasion of the lane Edi Berisha, in the stretch of road between «Bar Tange» and the exit for Nuvolento. His one-year-old daughter, who survived the accident, was traveling with him.
The following year, on November 20, in the territory of Rezzato, the 30-year-old died instead Alessandro Carrera. The following night, a 42-year-old traveling in a car with a Czech license plate crashed and instantly lost his life near the Prevalle tunnel.
In total, 61 people died in road accidents in the entire province of Brescia in 2023 alone.
The 2024 death toll in the Brescia area
In 2024 the blood count continues to increase on the roads of Brescia, even if the deaths recorded in road accidents were fewer than last year: to date there are 21 victims, while in the same period of 2023 there had been 23. Before the death of Mariangela Favagrossawhich occurred in Manerbio in the collision between his car and a bus, the death of the 67-year-old entrepreneur from Vallio Terme was recorded Rosario Ferandiwho crashed his bicycle into a car stopped at a stop sign. The man was rushed to the hospital but died a few hours after being admitted. She then died in May, ten days after the accident in which she had been involved, Agnese Quarena. The 78-year-old from Gavardo had been hit by a car while crossing the road.

Three deaths in two days
On the first weekend of June, they were three died in just twenty-four hours. A dramatic trail of blood on the roads of Brescia: two accidents occurred on Saturday 1 June in Valcamonica, where the 25-year-old lost his life Sergio Sanzogni and the 17 year old Alen Karaboja. Both were riding a motorbike. On Sunday 2nd, on the southern ring road, the 42-year-old bricklayer lost his life Mohamed Eldesouky.
