Salis has always declared herself innocent, rejecting the plea offer to 11 years in prison. For this reason she was held in custody in prison in Hungary. In June 2023, the first of three different requests presented by her lawyers requesting the possibility of serving house arrest in Italy was rejected. In November 2023 she was sent back to trial.
