Simone Borgese, no response to the investigating judge during the interrogation of the student raped in Rome: what happened

Silent scene for Simone Borgese, the man arrested by the police last week on charges of aggravated sexual assault against a student in Rome. Already convicted for two other episodes, the 39-year-old availed himself of the right not to answer before the investigating judge Maddalena Cipriani, in Piazzale Clodio. Borgese is under house arrest but the Rome Prosecutor’s Office has filed a request for review requesting his custody in prison again.

Simone Borgese posted recipes on social media the morning after the rape. The neighbors: “he was walking with his girlfriend, as if nothing had happened”

The interrogation

In the order of the investigating judge who ordered the house arrest it is explained that “there is a concrete danger” that the 39-year-old could commit “crimes of the same type as the one being prosecuted”, a fact “which can be deduced from the methods of conduct, which demonstrate the will of oppression of man which is surrounded by the fact that Borgese has specific precedents”. In fact, the man had been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months for sexual assault, robbery and injury to a taxi driver committed on 8 May 2015.

Other episodes of violence have not been ruled out

There could be other episodes of harassment or abuse committed by Simone Borgese, the 39-year-old arrested in recent days by the police in Rome for violence against a student and already convicted for two other episodes. This is what investigators hypothesize. At the moment there are no complaints, but those investigating do not rule out seriality considering the modus operandi. The violence against the student and the previous one against a taxi driver were committed on the same day, May 8, and in the same quadrant of the city. For this reason, investigators invite anyone who has suffered any harassment to report it. Simone Borgese was arrested in recent days by the police of the San Giovanni District and is now under house arrest. For investigators, the ways in which the two attacks took place 9 years apart suggest the possibility that there are other cases not yet brought to light. In particular for the day, May 8, for the secluded streets chosen in the same area, not far from where he lives, and also for the ‘safety’ that the attacker would have shown.
