With Inside Out 2 practically everyone at Pixar (and Disney) is breathing a sigh of relief. The second chapter of the saga of living emotions in the brain of young Riley, in fact, is having an amazing response at the box office, even in Italy, where it has exceeded 20 million euros in takings. After the hesitations of recent years, with titles not entirely loved by the public and critics and often ended up hastily on Disney+ streaming, Pixar seems return to its old glory and this film itself also has the feel of an instant classic. Moreover, it has all the salient characteristics of the most representative animated films of these animation studios, starting with numerous Easter eggs, quotes and references to Pixar’s past catalog. In this case, however, there is also a particular reference to a film that will arrive in the future.

As often happens in animated productions, in fact, it is easy to litter the scenes with small or large hooks to other workswhich are a bit of a way to pique the viewer’s attention and invite multiple viewings, to find every possible link. Inside Out 2, in fact, is no exception. In the scene in which Riley’s emotions review her future career hypotheses, for example, you will happen to see the famous one Luxo ballthe iconic yellow-blue ball with a red star that is omnipresent in Pixar films. Or, again, when you glimpse posters of boy bands in the teenager’s bedroom, the most attentive will notice a poster of 4*Town, the musical group adored in the recent Red. When Joy points out the new layout of Friendship and Family Islands to Sadness, she hands her binoculars that are clearly Lenny’s Toy Story.
But exactly there are not only glances to the past. In Inside Out 2in fact, we also see a character who will land in the Pixar family during 2025: it is the protagonist of helium, the feature film arriving next year, in fact, focuses on a boy who is mistaken for the Earth’s ambassador to the alien races and therefore “summoned” to discuss the future of the galaxies. We find the image of Elio in the Sarcasm scene, where there are different spheres of memory: one is dedicated to him. It is likely that we are faced with this “premonition” also because originally helium it was scheduled for release already this year and before it Inside Out 2before being precisely postponed to June 2025.
