BURANO – I unmistakable colors of the houses Of Burano as the “palette” of emotions and the sensations that characterize the human soul? Who knows if those extraordinary Disney-Pixar artists they thought of exactly this on the occasion of trailer posted online a few hours ago to launch the arrival “Inside Out” sequel in theaters, on screens from Wednesday 19 June (but with previews the previous day in participating cinemas). And so Anxiety, Envy, Boredom and Embarrassment, the new emotions protagonists of the film, became maxi installations placed on the houses overlooking the canals of Burano, with a dedicated video which, in a few hours, went around the world via the web.

Inside Out, who is Riley

The five emotions of Inside Out, that is Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear – those that “governed” Riley’s brain (the little girl protagonist of the first film in 2015 which grossed 860 million dollars), are joined in the sequel by these four new sensations because, in the meantime, little Riley has become a teenager entering high schoolwith his entire world – internal and external – being demolished to be rebuilt for adulthood. The greatness of Inside Outafter all, had been that of bring on stage – with irony but also with psychological accuracy – the emotional world of a growing girland with this sequel Disney-Pixar tries again, moving on to one of the most complex and important phases of growth for every individual.

What emotions are there in Inside Out 2

And so they new emotions of the cartoon Anxiety, Envy, Boredom and Embarrassmenthave become the protagonists of the giant “site specific” installations, that is, like a performance conceived specifically for a particular place, created in collaboration with local artists and artisans, creating a union between the colors of the digital drawings (each emotion is characterized by a particular colour) and those of the houses on the island of Burano. A special project thatas explained by Disney-Pixar, it was made with recycled materials and with low environmental impactdesigned to be perfectly integrated into the unique context of Burano, with these four installations colored during the day and illuminated at night through low-consumption LED systems.

Cartoon installations in Burano

As in a “pop-up” book which, when leafed through, releases 3D surprises, the installations of the new characters of Inside Out 2 they literally have left residents and tourists stunned and amusedending up in the video “Welcome to Burano”, full of colorful images of the island, which Disney distributed internationally through its social channels, but then relaunched by hundreds of websites.
The project is carried out thanks to the support of the Venice Film Commission, of the Municipality of Venice, in collaboration with Vela Spa which provided technical and administrative consultancy services, taking care of the authorization phase with the Municipality and other bodies involved. After the experience of the launch video of the film “Avatar: The Way of Water”, The Walt Disney Company returned to the lagoon to also create the promotional teaser for Inside Out 2 taking advantage of the extraordinary variety of colors of the homes on Burano as a contrast to the characters protagonists of the adventures of the mind of the adolescent Riley.

Great restart from the wizards of Pixar

From the point of view of box office receipts in the United States and critical reviews, Inside Out 2, directed by Kelsey Mann in his directorial debut, represents the relaunch of Disney’s “Pixar component”, after a few years in which the “magic touch” of a team that created animated masterpieces such as Toy Story, Cars, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo, had become noticeably tarnished. “Ahead of the weekend – writes The Hollywood Reporter -, the $200 million sequel was destined for a North American debut around $90 million, in line with the first film. Instead, Inside Out 2 will be the first film after Barbie, almost a year ago, to exceed 100 million dollars at launch”. And, if it goes like this in Italy and Europe too, Burano will also have brought a bit of (well-deserved) luck.
