The New Theater of Verona

From 5 November to 30 March – for a total of forty-eight performances – the 2024/2025 edition of the Il Grande Teatro review organized by the Municipality of Verona in collaboration with the Teatro Stabile di Verona – Theater Production Center is scheduled at the Teatro Nuovo.

Possibility of renewing season tickets from 15 July to 18 September, while for new ones the sale will start from 18 September. The eight shows scheduled offer the best of the 2024-2025 production.

The great classics prevail, starting with a double Goldoni with two symbolic titles such as “Arlecchino” and “La locandiera” and the presence of three extraordinary authors of the 20th century – Eduardo De Filippo, Tennessee Williams and Neil Simon).

Finally, on the contemporary drama front, three other authors from different continents: Europe (Pablo Renòn), the United States (David Mamet) and Asia (Ferzan Ozpetek), with works that place the contradictions of the present in eras that are very distant from our own, completing the concept of “New Classics” that characterizes the 24-25 program of the Nuovo.

“In an era in which virtual connection replaces human relationships, the theater keeps alive authentic interaction and the immediacy of emotions shared live, promoting empathy and reflection – underlines the Councilor for Culture Marta Ugolini -.

Aware of the value of theatre, not only cultural but also social, we enthusiastically present the new autumn season of the Municipality of Verona, which, as per tradition, will inhabit the stage of the Teatro Nuovo, renewing the collaboration with Fondazione Atlantide – Teatro Stabile Verona.

A beloved and eagerly awaited event. This year, the program features eight titles that will bring the great classics revisited in a contemporary key. There will be no shortage of entertainment, as well as food for thought on current issues that affect all of our lives”.

“I chose to title this edition of the Grande Teatro Nuovi Classici – says the artistic director of the Municipality of Verona’s Entertainment Carlo Mangolini – because of the presence of texts from what can now be considered a sort of consolidated repertoire, but presented in a completely new guise. This is the case of the two Goldonis in the program: “La locandiera” and “Arlecchino”.

To inaugurate this year’s festival, from 5 to 10 November, Ciarlatani by Pablo Remón, a hilarious comedy starring Silvio Orlando, Francesca Botti, Francesco Brandi and Blu Yoshimi, directed by Remón.

A production of Il Cardellino in co-production with Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi / Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale.

The event continues from 19 to 24 November with La Grande Magia by Eduardo De Filippo, a production of the Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Bellini, with Natalino Balasso, Michele Di Mauro and a cast to be defined and directed by Gabriele Russo.
