Next night July 6that 9pm, in the beautiful setting of Ulmo Palacein Taranto Vecchia, an unusual event will take place but, for those who already know it, stimulating, electrifying, exciting, vivifying: a poetry slam, competition between poets/performers, with their own texts, without music and costumes, only voice and microphone, voted by a popular jury. But it is not just any slam: it is the blessed Southern Area Regional Final of the beautiful 2023-2024 National Championship, announced by the worthy LIPS (Lega Italiana Poetry Slam) and managed here in Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata by the bold collective Slammalswhich after dozens and dozens of slams organized up and down the South, in the most varied places and in the most disparate venues, have finally reached the final stage. Many different faces and voices of the same art have arrived at the oral poetry challenge: Dino Andrisano, Ermes De Mauro, Ilaria Amodio, Michele Cesario, Sophie Stablein, Eleonora Pontrelli, Giovanni Cannone, Gaia Favaro, Cristina Carlà, Alessandro Catano, Elisa Biancofiore. From every corner of Puglia, these poets will compete for the final victory that only one of them will bring LIPS National Finals a Milano, next September. Two exceptional MCs will direct the competition: Andrea Bitonto e Jonathan Atzoriat the helm of the vessel.
What is a Poetry Slam?
The Poetry Slam is a competition in which poets compete in public by reading/reciting/performing their verses in 3-minute rounds, during which it is possible to perform one or more texts.
At the opening of the evening, the MC recites one of his lyrics (il sacrifice), to allow the public to understand the mechanism of the competition.
For this large regional final, after a first round voted on by 12 poets, and a second round voted on by 6 poets, the final round will see the 3 poets with the highest scores compete to decree the winner and the right to access the national final.
