“Once again in our city what works is destroyed, and once again the most fragile are the ones who pay the high price. This time it’s the retirement home’s turn Don Orionelocated in the district Sant’Antonio – Hill of the Angeli. Anyone who has had the opportunity to visit it cannot fail to recognize that it is a structure of excellence both from a logistical and human resources point of view. Already last year the structure implemented a strong reduction in the number of guests and staff. On that occasion we both requested a formal meeting with the Prefect of Reggio Calabria and involved the press, unfortunately without having the desired effects. We therefore had to helplessly watch the exodus of some of the guests and nursing staff.”
Thus, in a note sent to us by some relatives of the guests of the facility, they denounce the current situation and announce a meeting with the trade unions.
“Now it seems like we’re here again. Three meetings are scheduled for July 4th starting from 10.30 am with the trade unions, and in the afternoon, first with the staff, and then, at 5.00 pm with guests, families and guardians. And this doesn’t bode well. We have reason to fear that the structure will be definitively closed and we are ready to fight to ensure that this does not happen. We believe that the problem is not only of the 25 guests and families, but of the entire city which, already poor in social and health services, will suffer further serious impoverishment. This is why we hope for the intervention of the relevant authorities, associations, the press and all citizens”.
