There are 4 registered teams FIMBA Italy who get on the European podium of the 2024 FIMBA Maxibasket Championship. We bring home 2 golds (55 and 60), a silver (55 F) and a bronze (40). Here is a summary of the placings:

Over 40: 3rd place (bronze), after beating Georgia 108 to 76, playing the final with 5 men (!) and with David Moss scoring 51 points!

Over 55 Female: 2nd place (silver), defeated in the final by the very strong Estonia. Alessandro Angeli author of an average of 26 points in 5 games played.

Over 50 Maschile: 5th place, after overtaking Ireland.

Over 55: 1st place (gold), thanks to the 83-75 victory over Germany in the final.

Over 60: 1st place (gold), having beaten Serbia 83-55 in the final.

Over 65: 4th place, having lost 48-49 to Slovenia in the final

Over 75 Italian-Slovenian: he always won but did not compete in the medal awarding phase.

Yesterday (Sunday 30/6) 3 FIMBA Italia teams played:
The Over 55 he won in the final 83-75 with Germany, who also arrived undefeated and with players of great experience and physicality. The Azzurri dominated the 2nd quarter and then managed to stop the Germans’ comeback attempt. The usually irrepressible Angeli (24), Dalla Libera (16) and Delli Carri (13) celebrated with their teammates yet another gold medal from a proven and winning group of players. Suffice it to say that for Maurizio Venturi this gold medal is the 12th medal he has won at the FIMBA World or European Championships. Applause for coach Maurizio Marinucci, for years assistant coach of the late Alberto Bucci, from whom he learned leadership and team building skills.

Gold medal for ours too Over 60 that beats Serbia 83-55 with 21 points by Stama. This is also a group that has known each other for decades and has been playing together at the FIMBA Championships for at least 10 years. Coach Maurizio Benatti (awarded as Best Coach) has managed to motivate and manage them at their best, and the victories that count continue to arrive. The experience of Marco Tirel and Roberto “Bob” Gianni from Bologna have been a guarantee of results for years.

Unexpected defeat 48-49 against Slovenia for our team Over 65, and lost bronze medal. Magaddino (17 points) and his teammates succumb to tiredness after 5 games in 8 days. It’s a shame, because by just one point they were relegated to an undeserved 4th place. In the next few days we will issue a press release on the placings of all the Italian teams, both male and female.

After having witnessed many great matches, 3,000 athletes and a lot of enthusiasm, we expect the FIP to take note of this and begin to seriously enter the world of Masters basketball, as many Federations already do in Italy and abroad.
