A 9-month-old baby died under suspicious circumstances at the Santobono hospital in Naples, during the night between Friday and Saturday. The little boy, originally from Montella, had been urgently transferred from the hospital in Avellino after suddenly feeling unwell. The child’s clinical condition worsened rapidly, manifesting septic shock that seriously compromised his condition. Septic shock, which affects all organs and alters vital parameters, led to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), a critical condition that quickly evolves into hemorrhages. Unfortunately, the baby died shortly after his arrival at Santobono.

To clarify the causes of the infection that led to the child’s death, the Santobono doctors have requested an in-depth diagnostic investigation. This examination of organs and tissues, separate from the autopsy, will take place in the coming days. Currently, the causes of death remain unknown and only suppositions can be made without histological and microbiological evidence.

The mayor of Montella, Rizieri Buonopane, expressed deep condolences to the little boy’s family: “Our community is shocked by what happened. A tragedy that has overwhelmed us. Now we must be close to the parents, in a concrete way. On our part, there will be maximum support for the family”.
