Many at the farewell stage: Juric and the staff, Gemello, Djidji and Rodriguez say goodbye to Toro

June 30th is the prelude to the upcoming season, the last day before the official start of the transfer market. But it is also, every year, the date when many players’ contracts expire, often at the end of a multi-year cycle. The time for goodbyes has also come at Torino with numerous farewells.

June 30th, Ivan Juric and staff were the first to say goodbye

The first to say hello was Ivan Juric. The Granata coach closed a three-year cycle at the helm of Toro, coming close to that Europe which in the coach’s mind should have been the culmination of the three years. There have never been any doubts about the farewell in recent months, the official farewell statement arrived at the same time as Paolo Vanoli’s announcement. Not only Juric is leaving Turin, but consequently also the Croatian’s staff: the assistant coach Matteo Parothe head of athletic trainers Paolo Barberthe athletic trainer Stjepan Ostojic (the athletic trainers Enrico Busolin and Paolo Solustri remain with Vanoli), the goalkeeping trainer Massimo Cataldithe technical collaborator Ivan Moschellahe match analyst Mattia Bastianelli. With the departure of Juric and the arrival of Vanoli, the Granata club halves the salary of the technical guide: the Croatian coach received 2 million euros per season, Vanoli’s salary is around 1 million euros plus bonuses .

June 30, Djidji, Gemello and Rodriguez’s contracts expire

Three players have reached the end of their career with Torino, with different balances at the end of a multi-year cycle. Ricardo Rodriguez says goodbye to the Granata world after 4 years in Turin. Arrived under the Mole in the summer of 2020 with Giampaolo, Rodriguez found his own dimension and redemption in the three-year Juric, becoming one of the immovable leaders of the Granata in the last three years and arriving to wear the captain’s armband. The Swiss, often described as a silent leader, leaves Turin having collected 129 appearances under his belt. The path of not continuing was consensual: the Granata club never proposed a renewal, Rodriguez and his entourage never expressed the desire to stay. The Swiss’s salary was around 1.5 million euros net per season. The second farewell is of another defender, Koffi Djidji. The Frenchman arrived in Turin on loan from Nantes in the summer of 2018 only to be bought out for 3.5 million euros. After the loan to Crotone, Djidji remained on a permanent basis in the Granata starting from the 2021-2022 season, finding centrality in Juric’s project and becoming one of his loyalists. Djidji, whose contract also expired last June, had been extended by Juric’s express wish for a further year in Turin. However, last season was unfortunate and punctuated by long-term injuries. Now the paths of Djidji and Torino part ways after 112 appearances. The Frenchman received approximately 900 thousand euros net per season. Finally there is Luca Twina goalkeeper born in 2000 who grew up in Turin after being taken from Fossano at the age of 16. Since 2021-2022 Gemello has been part of the First Team goalkeeper roster. In total only four appearances, marred by serious errors in the last year. There has never been any talk of a renewal, Gemello, whose salary is around 100 thousand euros per season, leaves on a free transfer and says goodbye after almost ten years with Toro.
