SANSEPOLCRO

The new pavement has been laid in via Piero della Francesca, one of the main transversal routes of the historic center of Sansepolcro, on which work has been underway since November 27th as part of the projects financed with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The square blocks in pietra serena, arranged in a herringbone pattern except for the part concerning the intersections, arrived from the beginning of the road, therefore from via Matteo di Giovanni, up to the intersection with via XX Settembre and, as regards the installation, the intervention can be considered completed, in the sense that from the course up to the steps of San Rocco the porphyry cubes that have always been present will remain. “The last stretch is not included in the project, at least for now – specifies the deputy mayor and councilor for public works, Riccardo Marzi – and then the company in charge will have to complete everything with the grouting, which will be followed by a necessary period of downtime for the consolidation of the various pieces, so we hope to reopen via Piero della Francesca by the end of July”. The visual impact on the biturgenians was positive, even if – in light of the situation found in other disaster areas – more than one person asked the obvious question: is it a type of stone that is resistant? “It is the hardest one, so it is the best solution from a qualitative point of view. It is certified by the materials science department of the University of Florence, to which we turned.”

Via Piero della Francesca in the home stretch, then. And now what does the roadmap include? “The transfer of the works to via dei Servi and subsequently to piazza Dotti. We chose two places connected to each other and detached from the context of the main road so as not to hinder the activity of the local public – bars and restaurants – which have the appurtenances in the summer on the course, so it is right for us to ensure that they can work in normal conditions” concluded councilor Marzi.
