Sirene 2024, the call for the workshop “On the fragility of bodies” is open

The fourth edition of the SIRENE Festival will host this year a free dance-theatre workshop led by choreographer Riccardo Fusiello of the Sonenalé company. The choreographer will lead an intensive four-day course in Bisceglie starting on July 15, which will end with the performance “Della fragilità dei corpi”, which will be presented on Friday 19 as part of the festival program.

The workshop is dedicated to bodies of any age and characteristics, who have training and stage experience of movement as professional and non-professional dancers/performers/actors/circus performers. To apply for the workshop, you must send your CV and two photos (full-length and close-up) by July 8th to the address [email protected] indicating in the subject: “CALL Riccardo Fusiello”.

“The fragility of bodies questions how the limits and limitations of the human body act in the lives of all of us. I’m not just referring to physical limitations, but I mean any type of limit (social, political…) that forces us to readjust the discovery and knowledge of others and the world around us”, explains the choreographer. “Our body is the shell that takes us around the world, the one we use to realize our thoughts, our desires, which allows us to do well, to do badly, to make people suffer, to make mistakes, to give joy: but what do I do with this body? How do I use it? What do I need it for? We become aware that our thoughts, our desires, our possibility of knowledge and relationships with others, our actions are linked, subjugated and limited to a material body. The limit becomes knowledge and inevitable discovery of the body we have and of what we are, of its grace and its beauty”, writes Fusiello in the description of what will be the main theme of his activity with the workshop participants.

Fusiello’s path favors contamination as artistic research: an attitude that investigates different declinations of art each time. The last stage of this research journey was at the University of Turin for the European project “Controversial bodies”.

The workshop, which will take place in the Spazio Sonenalé in via degli Aragonesi 30 in Bisceglie, will be held on the following days: Monday 15 July (2:00 pm – 6:00 pm), Tuesday 16 July (9:30 am – 2:00 pm), Thursday 18 July (9:30 am – 2:00 pm), Friday 19 July (9:30 am – 2:00 pm + afternoon/evening).
