Operation ‘Last’, four more suspects released

The thirtieth suspect in Operation ‘Last’ was stopped at Bologna’s Marconi airport. He was placed under house arrest. Another was tracked down in the station area of Reggio. The investigations, which began in August 2021, have circumscribed a drug trafficking operation that extended from Emilia-Romagna to Northern Italy and up to Campania. A total of 38 precautionary measures were issued last Monday against Italian and non-Italian citizens. For some of them, the search is becoming more complex, having returned to their countries of origin, but this is not the case with Wednesday’s arrest in Bologna. The man, Albanian, was not at home during the raid (two blocks of hashish were seized here) and returned from Albania by plane. The other, a Nigerian, was tracked down thanks to the cameras in Piazzale Marconi: stopped and taken to prison in Reggio. Yesterday the preliminary interrogations continued: out of five, with the approval of prosecutors Giulia Galfano and Denise Panoutsopoulos, investigating judge Andrea Rat released four. Among them a woman and two men, defended by the lawyer Giuseppe Caldarola: “They admitted their responsibilities, collaborating”, explains the lawyer. Another suspect who was under house arrest, was released. The woman is defended by Domenico Noris Bucchi: “She availed herself of the right to remain silent and we discussed the precautionary needs”.
