Bisceglie – Bi Marmi, Free the future: “The administration is silent”

English: “More than 3 months ago we held a press conference to announce an investigation report by the Ministry of Culture and Landscape that essentially recognized the validity of all our reasons for opposing the development of Bi Marmi. For transparency towards citizens and the many who shared our positions, we would like to publicly provide some information. – declare Libera il futuro and Pro Natura Bisceglie – After that conference we obtained a small result: the Municipality appeared, as we requested, at the Council of State against the cancellation of the suspension of the development until January 2025. A Pyrrhic victory, given that, if the new General Urban Plan (PUG) is not approved by that date, construction work could start in winter 2025. We urged – they add – the Administration to start (also making ourselves available to give a contribution) meetings with the developers to agree on different solutions, also within the scope of the approval procedures for the new PUG. Having received no feedback, we would like to know (in the name of Transparency) from the Mayor and the relevant Councillor whether there have been meetings with the developers and what the outcome, if any, was.

We then urged the resumption of administrative procedures on the new PUG, whose final approval would block the subdivision: the new urban planning regulations provide, in fact, for a large area in the Bi Marmi area designated as a public green area facing the sea. Silence has also fallen on this topic; for example, the date of discussion of the observations on the PUG sent by citizens and Associations is unknown. It is not clear what the urban planning vision of the city government is and this makes the fate of the PUG itself uncertain.
Furthermore, with the forthcoming establishment of the Lama S. Croce Regional Natural Park, a few meters away from the development area, the establishing law which will be discussed shortly in the Region should provide for an unbuildable “respect” area, objectively irreconcilable with the prospect of seeing seafront buildings spring up to the east. What is the Angarano administration’s position on this matter?”

Finally they conclude “We firmly reiterate our requests and we consider the contents of the letters received from some managers of the Municipality after our press conference in February 2024 to be insufficient – as well as questionable. We demand, rather, answers in particular from the political administration of the city, believing that in this matter we have demonstrated respect for the institutions and that we have acted with a sense of responsibility.”
