He replaces the Captain of the Vessel, Giuseppe Strano, who will move to the General Command of the Port Authority Corps

Handover to the Port Authority of Rome-Fiumicino. Today, at 6.30pm, Captain Giuseppe Strano will officially leave his position as Head of the Maritime Department and Commander of the Port of Rome to Captain Silvestro Girgenticoming from the secretariat of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi.

After three years of intense work, Commander Strano leaves the structure in Viale Traiano to take up a prestigious position in the 2nd Legal Affairs and Institute Services Department of the General Command of the Port Authority Corps. The deputy minister Rixi, the General Commander of the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard and the Maritime Director of Civitavecchia will be present at the passing of the baton.

The ceremony, which will take place in the internal square of the Harbor Office, will also be an opportunity to share the balance sheet of the interventions carried out at sea by the Coast Guard patrol boats, operations followed closely by Commander Strano.

The new commander Girgenti was born in Palermo on 4 November 1968 and graduated in Economics and Business from the University of Palermo in 1991. In the same year he specialized in strategic operational and sales marketing. At the end of 1999 he attended the specialization course at the Naval Academy of Livorno, through which he obtained the passage to the higher grade. From 23 August 2004 he was assigned to the Harbor Master’s Office of Porto Empedocle where he achieved excellent results in various positions, including Head of State Property-Dispute Section, Environment and Head of Sea Defense Operational Unit. From August 2004 to September 2006 he was Head of the Maritime District and Commander of the port of Marsala. In January 2008 he was promoted to Corvette Captain. From 2016 to 2018 he was responsible for the Maritime Department and Commander of the Port Authority of Pesaro. In January 2020 he obtained the rank of Captain of Vessel. From October 2022 to June 2024 he was advisor to the deputy minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi.
