Andrea Mandorlini, twice at the helm of Padova in different eras and moments, in an interview with news.superscomesse.it, does not mince his words in commenting on the recent promotion which faded from the biancoscudati to the playoffs, broadening the spectrum of analysis to a an aspect that is always much discussed in the Paduan house: poor planning. The former Inter libero of Trapattoni’s records starts from afar in his analysis: «Serie C is a difficult championship and I experienced it firsthand in my last season in Padua. With five matches to go we were leading by a margin, then we lost in Trieste due to a hand goal. Unfortunately the VAR wasn’t there in Serie C, as it isn’t there today, and in the end we ended up playing it all in the playoffs. We dominated the final against Alessandria, we should have won by a landslide and instead we lost on penalties”, confirms the coach from Ravenna. «I think it would have been logical to move forward together, but different choices were made. The big problem of the Padua square is the environment. There is always too much sadness, too much negativity. I understand that there is pressure because it is an important place, but at the first negative event criticism immediately rains down and one can easily get depressed. It’s a shame because the city is beautiful and the fans are attached to the team, but in the end with an attitude like that everything backfires. I’m sure that promotion will arrive sooner or later, but Padova is not the first important team to get stuck in Serie C for years. Investing is fundamental, but the environment must also lend a hand. Then, of course, it’s right to plan, but sometimes a bit of continuity would also be needed, but instead every year it changes…”
