In Piazza Duomo an installation with eleven giant marbles portraying the champions of yesterday and today

Everything is ready for the first start in the history of the Tour de France from Italy. There are only a few hours left until “Great departure” scheduled for Saturday 29 June, departing from Florence and I arrive in Rimini. The other two stages will be Cesenatico-Bologna on 30 June and Piacenza-Turin on 1 July, after which the caravan will continue to France, with the final stage for the “Grande Boucle” in Nice.

After the presentation of the 22 teams, made up of 8 cyclists each for a total of 176 athletes, the party in Piazzale Michelangelo and the opening of the Fan Park in Piazza Santa Croce yesterday, today was the turn of the inauguration of the “Karl Kopinski, Winning the Yellow” show between Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati and Piazza Duomo. It is in fact under Brunelleschi’s Dome that eleven giant marbles appeared, dedicated to cycling champions of yesterday and todaysymbolizing one of the most popular and loved beach games that led to dreams of the stages of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.

“The Tour de France is an extraordinary event,” said President Eugenio Giani, “that we intend to honor to the fullest. And so it is with great joy that we have set up this exhibition of Karl Kopinski. Master Kopinski, with his strong brush strokes and the extreme realism he uses in the interpretation of his characters, gives us the moments that have remained indelibly imprinted in time by blocking the exact moment, the magical one that tells the story. Cycling, even more than football, is a popular celebration. It is the people who pour out onto the streets for a few moments of the race, it is the wait and then the applause for everyone, regardless of their cheering, because everyone’s sweat and effort are respected; it is the epic of certain stages and certain feats. The Kopinskj exhibition with its heroes wants to exalt these moments and these emotions and I consider it a fantastic way to celebrate the departure of the Tour de France from Florence and Tuscany.”
