Former Carabinieri Commander Foligno on trial: Details and charges

Former Commander of the Carabinieri of Foligno on Trial: Details and Charges

FM, former commander of the Carabinieri of Foligno, will face an abbreviated trial starting from November 12th. M. is accused together with Brigadier GI and accused of forgery of public documents, embezzlement, possession of drugs for the purpose of sale and fraud.

The judge for the preliminary hearings in Spoleto, Luca Cercola, accepted the request for an alternative procedure presented by the commander’s defence, represented by the lawyers Giovanni Picuti and Carla Archilei. The officer, who was discharged and currently carries out socially useful work, had previously unsuccessfully attempted to take the plea bargaining route.

The request was rejected on the basis of the negative opinion expressed by the deputy prosecutors Vincenzo Ferrigno and Michela Petrini. Neither the injured parties, who have been paid separately for damages, nor the Carabinieri will participate in the process. The latter, surprisingly, did not file a civil action through the State Attorney’s Office.

GI, however, chose the path of the ordinary rite. For him, the judge will decide in November whether to send him to trial on charges of false ideology.

The investigation, which broke out in November 2022, concerns the relationship between the commander, who has managed the Foligno station since the 2000s, and two criminals from whom he allegedly received money in exchange for favours. Furthermore, he is accused of having had a relationship with a woman who he tried to spy on by falsifying investigative documents sent to the Spoleto prosecutor’s office to obtain permission to acquire her telephone records. This story also involves the other suspect.

M. is also accused of having stolen 59 grams of cocaine seized and stored in the station’s crime warehouse, falsifying the records and declaring their destruction. The investigation, as Rai Regionale writes today under the signature of Massimo Solani, was launched following a complaint presented by some colleagues from the force, which led to the names of the two soldiers being registered in the register of suspects.
