“Do something to remove the degradation from our street”

“Something must be done to remove Corso Mazzini from the deterioration it has experienced in recent years”. This is the common thought of many traders who have businesses along the street, which has also been the protagonist of violent episodes in recent days. “It’s disgusting” declared one of them using a typical dialect phrase, which confirms how much there is no tranquility along the course. The fight on Monday 17 June between Pakistani citizens was the latest in a long series of episodes. They explain their disagreement, but prefer not to use their name.

“Up until now it has been violence involving settling accounts between foreigners – underlines a trader – but this does not mean that one day people who pass along the road at that moment cannot also be involved. I don’t know what measures can be taken, but I hope that the Municipal Administration analyzes this situation very well, because unfortunately it is happening again. There is a lot of talk about finding a remedy for the degradation of the historic center, a problem that was often highlighted during the election campaign, and now we hope that a solution can be found.”

The point in Corso Mazzini where on Monday 17 June around 7.30 pm there was a chain fight between Pakistanis is in fact the same where on 7 June 2023 there was an attack with an ax in which a person risked die. However, the deterioration of the course does not only concern safety. “The road surface is terrible and in many places the cobblestones are missing – says another trader – creating problems for car tires, but also for pedestrians and bicycles, because some could come loose. Not to mention the dirt in some places.”

“Unfortunately, ours is a street that seems to be forgotten by the Municipal Administration, because you just need to take a simple walk to realize that there are really many problems to solve and at least the less serious ones, such as resurfacing the road surface, could be taken into consideration , given that for many months many courses and streets in the city have been undergoing a real restyling. In our country, it wouldn’t take much to fix the road, but we should think about it…”, he concludes.
