TRANI (BAT) – “Teatro a Corte – Premio Giovanni Macchia” continues with great public satisfaction, the national review of amateur theater at Palazzo delle Arti Beltrani, now in its fourth edition, with the artistic direction of Enzo Matichecchia and Lella Mastrapasqua, in collaboration with the Compagnia dei Teatranti APS of Bisceglie-Trani and the Italian Free Theater Union.

The Compagnia dei Teatranti will be on the stage of the ‘Davide Santorsola’ Court on Saturday 29 June, protagonist of the two-act parody “I ri…Promessi Sposi” with text by Matichecchia. The only show out of competition with respect to the awarding of the prize named in memory of Giovanni Macchia (Trani 1912 – Rome 2001), distinguished scholar and writer, one of the most important Italian critics of the twentieth century and academic of the Lincei, director of the Institute of Theater History From Rome.

Two slightly older lovers who just can’t get married, a curate fascinated by dance and the small screen, a not-so-reliable servant, some bad Bravi…but good guys, a Spanish nobleman with a very special girlfriend, a slightly older friar alternative, a lawyer who makes nonsense his best skill, a group of nuns with a sui generis mother superior, a shady individual with a charitable heart, and a surprise ending!

If to all this we add some famous songs whose lyrics have been modified in favor of a theatrical project enjoyable by an audience of all ages and social and cultural backgrounds, “I ri…Promessi Sposi” can be defined as a comic-musical parody of immediate usability, which is inspired by those proposed on TV in the 60s by the unforgettable Cetra Quartet, in the 80s by the famous Lopez Marchesini Solenghi trio and by the paradoxical cinematic ideas of Mel Brooks.

Often considered as a derivative genre or subgenre, parody instead presupposes a profound knowledge of the work to be distorted, so much so that it is more pleasant and effective than satire.

The artistic programming of Palazzo delle Arti Beltrani, a multifunctional cultural container of the city of Trani, is curated by the director Niki Battaglia, enjoys the media partner of Radio Selene and was created by the Association of the Arts with the support of the City of Trani, the patronage of the International Festival of Andria Castel dei Mondi, the intervention of the Puglia Region, the PACT Polo Arti Cultura Turismo of the Region, Extraordinary Plan 2022 “Let’s safeguard Culture in Puglia” – Special Fund for Culture and Cultural Heritage LR 40/2016, art.15 , paragraph 3 and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.
