Lorenzo Basco, the jumper from Cussino born in 2000, won the long jump competition at the Summer Meeting in Piacenza with the remarkable measurement of 7.08 m and above all with a series of jumps all over 7 metres. This confirms the excellent performance obtained at the National University Championships in May in Isernia, where Lorenzo placed fourth just three cm from the podium with a leap of 7.30 m, his new personal best and second best provincial performance all time, after Antonio Boldrini’s 7.33 and equaling Claudio Lorenzetto’s 7.30 (holder of a 7.46 achieved however with the Virtus Bologna shirt).

Basco, a student at the University of Ferrara on the master’s degree course in foreign languages and literatures, is coached by the coach Gianfranco Parigi; in this part of the season he has reached his optimal state of form, now frequently overcoming the 7 meter wall, but he still has to find the right balance in the race run-ups, given that in the best jumps made so far he has always left a few centimeters of margin in the platform detachment and this shows that it can be worth even higher measures, perhaps even around 7.50 m.

Lorenzo has also shown that he is an excellent sprinter, given his performances in the 100 m, with a personal best of 11.19 obtained in 2022 and almost achieved last May with the 11.22 of Modena. At the last Ferrarameeting on Wednesday 26 June he ran the 100 m stopping the clock at 11.35 but still demonstrating excellent levels of form also in speed.

Other athletes from Cussi were involved in the races of the 28th edition of Ferrarameeting, where good performances were seen, starting with the splendid victory of the girls of the 4×400: Emma Brina, Elena Bonafè, Silvia Fortunato and Maia Vocca won the race with a good time of 4:10.23, ahead of the other home team of Atletica Estense (4:14.19) and the girls of Atletica Reggio (4:20.69). Maia Vocca and Silvia Fortunato were also involved in the 100 m individual race, where they placed fifth and sixth respectively with times of 12.77, a new pb for Maia, and 12.80 for Silvia, who comes close to her personal best of 12.71 obtained in Isernia at the CNU and the 12.78 run in Bologna on June 5. In the men’s race, in addition to Basco’s 11.35, an excellent time was achieved by Junior Tommaso Ferrozzi, who with 11.55 improved on the previous record of 12.06. Filippo Torresin earned second place in the 800 m race with a time of 1:54.26 despite a physical condition that prevented him from running the scheduled 4×400, with Ferrozzi, Perazzini and Padovan; the latter in the same 800 m race ran in 2:02.75. Improvements were also made by Student Sara Cirulli who threw 29.96 m in the javelin, beating her previous record by over 3 metres; in the same race in the Absolute category, with the 600 g javelin Barbara Basaglia threw 34.58 m, placing fifth.

In the youth competitions, the cadets Virginia Pelati, Rachele Botti and Virginia Grimani were competing in the 80m: Pelati stopped the clock at 11.44, equalling her personal best achieved in Copparo in April, 11.83 for Botti and 11.92 for Virginia Grimani.
