“With Airbnb it’s a jungle”

If the European MaxiBasket championship, dedicated to athletes over 40, brought over 2500 people to Pesaro who are currently crowding the city hotels, the summer season for hoteliers started with ups and downs, as

explains Marco Filippetti, newly elected president of the Apa: “Pesaro is a seaside city, where tourism focuses on the summer season, which begins with the end of the school year and then ends around September 10 – he says -. We need to work on deseasonalization , attracting tourists even in the months that are not strictly summer. And we must also work on quality tourism, so that different and differentiated targets also arrive in Pesaro. The one organized in these days by Peppe Ponzoni is a very high quality event, which has brought many guests in the city. We hope that events like these can be repeated in the future, perhaps by moving them to the beginning of June”.

Filippetti takes stock of the month that is coming to a close: “In the first days of June we struggled a bit – he says – and also for July and August things are going a bit slowly. It’s true that we are working very hard date, so we are doing everything we can to maintain a high level of quality at the right price, without offering excessive discounts.”

The president of Apa then intervenes on the proliferation of private apartment rentals through the AirBnB platform:

“The exponential growth of this phenomenon is there for all to see, which no longer concerns large cities like Rome, Milan or Venice – he says – but which is also increasingly involving small provinces like ours. I would like to underline that we are not against AirBnB, but we ask for compliance with the rules for those who rent through this platform.

Today there is unfair competition and it is practically a jungle, while we hoteliers have to follow strict rules and obtain licenses – he adds -. We resisted as long as there were few accommodations offered through AirBnb, but today this is no longer a sustainable situation. In other European countries, such as France and Spain, something has been done at government level to calm the phenomenon. We hope that this will happen soon with us too.”
