Bolzano, taxis and rental vehicles: there is a regulatory gap, they cannot move people across the border – News

BOLZANO. Discussed at the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce, to discuss potential solutions relating to the cross-border passenger transport service: the aim is to compensate for the legislative void for which taxis and rental vehicles, which move between Italy, Germany and Austriathey cannot transport people across the border.

Currently, taxi service or rental companies that cross the state border with a vehicle with a maximum capacity of nine people, including the driver, risk a financial penalty and seizure of the vehicle.

This is due to the fact that this type of transport is not regulated either at European level or through bi- or trilateral agreements. In order to delve deeper into this problem and propose solutions, representatives of the following institutions met this morning: Chamber of Economy of Tyrol, Chambers of Commerce of Bolzano and Trento, Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

“Border territories act as connections between states and often carry out cross-border economic activities. Especially in the tourist areas of the Alpine arc, it is important that taxi service and vehicle rental companies can carry out transport to other countries. The competent ministries are on board helping to find a solution to this problem”, explains the President of the Chamber of Commerce Michl Ebner.
