Tense morning at the Burranca hotel, in via San Basilio, where around seventy migrants are hosted. An eighteen-year-old, for reasons still unknown, grabbed a knife and injured his arms, creating a climate of panic and disorder within the facility. In an attempt to stop him, another 25-year-old migrant intervened and was also hit and injured. The situation quickly degenerated, requiring the immediate intervention of law enforcement and rescuers. The Carabinieri of the Quartu Company promptly arrived on site to restore calm and investigate the causes of this violent episode.

The 118 ambulances transported the two injured people to the Monserrato Polyclinic, both with yellow codes. These incidents cannot be ignored and raise serious questions about the management of reception centres. The citizens of Quartu Sant’Elena helplessly witness these acts of violence, wondering what measures have been adopted to guarantee safety within these structures. It is urgent for the authorities to clarify and take appropriate measures to prevent further incidents of this kind.

The safety of citizens and migrants must be a priority, and this requires rigorous control and adequate psychological support for those living in these precarious and stressful conditions. Today’s news reminds us once again that the migration phenomenon, if not managed with seriousness and rigor, can lead to explosive and dangerous situations. The community of Quartu Sant’Elena deserves answers and concrete actions to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future.
