A boy of 17 years was arrested for voluntary manslaughter after confessing to having taken the life of his grandmother, Maria Teresa Flores Chavez65-year-old Peruvian nurse found dead Monday 24 June in his apartment in the Careggi district, a Florence, with marks on his neck perhaps due to strangulation. The alarm was raised around five in the morning by the neighbors, alerted by the nephew himself, who lived with the victim. At first, the 17-year-old said he had found a stranger when he returned home, with whom he had engaged in a struggle only to find his grandmother dead in her bed. Accompanied to the police station, the boy confessed to the murder and was stopped on the orders of the juvenile prosecutor Giuseppina Mione. The 17-year-old had been living with his grandparents for about four years in the small apartment in Careggi: he had arrived in Florence for studywhile his parents remained in Peru. Maria Teresa Flores Chavez worked as nurse in a facility for psychiatric patients and in another for Alzheimer’s patients: her husband, the boy’s grandfather, was out of town at the time of the crime.
