There Sicily region has renewed the agreements with i fire fighters to be able to counteract the forest fires on the island. Through the new financing regional will be added new teams fire prevention. The financial commitment for the administration is dthe 2.5 million eurosor. Furthermore, the firefighting campaigns from 5 May to 31 October
President Schifanideclares: “This year too we have renewed the agreement with the National Fire Brigade for stronger and more synergistic action against forest fires. Greater resources have been committed which will allow us to strengthen the presence of personnel and vehicles, making it more widespread across the territory, especially in the places furthest from the detachments“.
Until 2023 the additional commitments there were 14, this year they become 19,for a total of 116 peopleAnd. All units, made up of five elements each, will be operational from 8am to 8pm. Only in Ustica, Vulcano and Pantelleria, the teams will work 24 hours a day (from 1st to 31st August).
In addition to interventions from the ground, we add those by road aerial. They were arranged well ten light helicopters rented by the Region and one in agreement with the Carabinieri. Furthermore, you will have the support of the national air fleet: Canadair and heavy helicopters.
The agreement aims to reduce the damage to natural heritage and assetsimprove community safety and strengthen the coordination structures involved.
