Varane shot: the dream is not impossible

Difficult but not impossible. It is the only consideration that transpires from Raphael Varane’s visit to Como. Moreover, the arrival in the city of the French defender, who arrived in the city on Saturday for an initial meeting with the management and then spent the evening in Milan, is a clear sign of how the interest is there and above all it is mutual.

Varane, who presumably met with Cesc Fabregas yesterday, is seriously considering playing for Como. Nothing is known about the outcome of these meetings, much less about Varane’s requests, who, with his prestigious curriculum – a World Cup won with France, four Champions Leagues won with Real Madrid and much more – as well as an age at which he can still give, and receive, a lot, given that he is thirty-one, can certainly afford not to settle. He would arrive in Italy as a free agent, and this is undoubtedly an advantage, but with a presumably very high salary. Furthermore, this is a player who has always played in Europe for thirteen years, twelve of which in the Champions League with Real and Manchester United, even if his three seasons in England were a little less satisfying on a personal level than the previous ones. Therefore, for him, it would be a choice to weigh up very carefully. There has also been talk of Roma’s possible interest in the defender, who has only met with Como so far.

No one can say at this moment how much time the player might take to decide, but his arrival in Italy suggests that he himself does not want to waste too much time.

On the sidelines of the Varane affair, Bournesmouth defender Adam Smith was also seen in the area, having undergone tests the other day in Cantù. Apparently, however, he would not be a player targeted by Como, however curious the coincidence is.
