“I want to see my son’s body, I want to see the man who abandoned him.” Speaking on a video call from India is the mother of Satnam Singhthe 31-year-old who died after, on June 17, he severed his arm in the fields of Latina where he worked illegally and instead of being helped immediately, he was abandoned by his employer, Antonello Lovato, in the middle of the road. Interviewed by Tg3, the laborer’s mother says she wants to see the body of her son in whatever condition he is in and the place where he died.

“I don’t understand how he could have done this,” he adds, referring to the failure to help Lovato, who is currently under investigation at large. Finally, the woman also had a thought for Sony, Satnam’s partner, saying that for her she is like her daughter.
Sony’s position, however, is delicate. There would already have been those within the Indian community who would have called the 31-year-old’s family in India from the fields of the Pontine countryside, insinuating that the woman could keep all possible compensation for herself and not send anything to Asia. Part of the Sikhs are in fact marginalizing Sony, “guilty” in their eyes of being only Satnam’s partner and not his wife. And in India there is apprehension as there would also still be a bill to settle with the traffickers who allowed the 31-year-old to arrive in Italy.
A very delicate situation, on which the CGIL itself is moving with the utmost attention. “Any sums raised will go both to Sony and to Satnam’s family,” she specifies Hardeep Kaursecretary of the local Flai CGIL.
Meanwhile this afternoon, June 25th, another demonstration will be held in Latina after the one organized by the CGIL last Saturday. The Indian laborers will return to the streets, but this time with the flags of the Uil and the CISL. Apparently a split that is not good for the fight against gangmastering.
Finally this morning the lawyer Gianni Laurettipresident of the local Bar Association, who will assist Sony as requested by the Municipality, will meet the 26-year-old and is preparing to follow both the procedures for the possible repatriation of the body and to represent the young woman in the ongoing investigations, also appointing any consultants .
