VITERBO – The Assembly of the Diocesan Council of the Laity presided over by Bishop Orazio Francesco Piazza took place on 11 June 2024. This body brings together all the representatives of the lay groups (associations, equestrian orders, brotherhoods) of the Diocese of Viterbo and has had a notable boost in the context of the judicial reorganization promoted by Bishop Piazza, since his inauguration on 3 December 2022, with a view to the conciliar renewal and the inspiration of Saint JH Newman and the synodal project.
In just over a year, therefore, the organisation, with the constant attention of the bishop, renewed its statute and held a series of meetings to orchestrate the synergy of the various lay entities in the area.
The recent meeting, rather than being the closing of the social year, given the date, was like the assignment of a more demanding mandate to “get the ball rolling” for the next autumn diocesan assembly. The bishop considers the laity as his “sensors” of the territory, illustrating his vision of the ecclesial reality as a body whose organs work for the common good, each with its own specificity, but sharing and collaborating in the growth of the whole. Avoid fragmentation: this was reiterated several times by Monsignor Piazza, burdening the delegates with new tasks and new challenges.
The bishop did not fail to point out how a good organization can be efficient, but becomes effective only when it is animated by prayer: united in our Lord Jesus Christ, the common sonship of God the Father becomes brotherhood among his believers.
The assembly of the Diocesan Council of the Laity currently has around fifty associations of Catholic inspiration. After the death of Don Tito Monanni, already bishop delegate, and Agostino Moscatelli president, it was renewed with the appointment of the new bishop delegate Don Alfredo Cento and the new president Roberto Marchetti, assisted by councilors Salvatori Renzo secretary, Anna Antognini, Sergio Caparelli And Antonio Giuffrida, that make up the Bureau.
