The mayor of La Valle, a municipality in South Tyrol, Angel Miribung, died in a mountain accident.

The accident – reports the local press – occurred yesterday on Piz Bernina, in Switzerland, but the rescue teams managed to find the body only today due to the fog.
Miribung was in the mountains with a friend.

The vice president of the SVP (of which Miribung was a member) Daniel Alfreider remembers him. “Our community has lost a man and a politician who, with his deep sense of justice and his sensitivity for people, worked tirelessly for the common good,” Alfreider wrote on social media. “I will miss his countless visits to Bolzano and our meetings in La Val and, above all, our friendship. My condolences to his family, his wife, children and grandchildren. A big hug.”

It is not the first fatal accident in the mountains in recent days. On Wednesday a 49-year-old Austrian tourist lost his life in Val Pusteria while he was climbing the Cima della Capra, while yesterday the body of a 56-year-old Belgian mountaineer who had not returned from an excursion on the Croda del Clivio was found, above Naturno, in Val Venosta.
