Heated clash between Donatella Rector e Antonello Venditti. Some time ago the singer had spoken like this about Annalisa or Angelina Mango: “These young people are good: I know how to do what they do, but they don’t know how to do what I do. And take Annalisa: she is a very good singer, but she was forced by the market to become something other than herself.”

Then Venditti himself clarified: “I love Annalisa, Angelina e Madame so the whole article is a huge stretch just to create strange and useless comparisons. I have heard them interpret songs by great songwriters with great skill, but evidently for today’s market it is not enough to be good. It demands a look and a presumed sensuality imposed by a further presumed now globalized sound”.

In an interview with Everyday occurrence Donatella Rettore took a stand: “What he said to Annalisa and Angelina? I have to be honest, I didn’t know he said that, but I’ll stop you right now. Antonello Venditti is angry and he was angry with me too. Did I give myself an answer? No. I’m just saying that there are great singer-songwriters who have made the history of music and that’s fine”. Finally she added: “These same people are also men who would do better to keep quiet and let young people make their own way. And it happened to me in the past. Gino Paoli turned away every time he saw me. But do you know what I think? That only time proves you right. I’m still here after 40 years, for example. Angelina Mango and Annalisa are very good, they are ‘sponges’, they do well not to put up barriers around themselves and to open up. They sing very well. Time will prove them right”.
